Turf Field Nearing Completion

The first piece of turf is put down today. It was confirmed at this mornings' bi-weekly project meeting that the turf project is on schedule and the turf installation will be completed next friday 10/14. The track portion of the project is slated to be completed on 11/11. It appears, barring any surprised with either project, that CHS will be hosting Southington on the new turf on Thanksgiving Day!

Tony:
Any truth to the rumor that they may even play on the new field this Friday against Wilbur Cross?

I was told that the field can't be played on until the track surface is completed by 11/11. If I hear otherwise this week I will post.

You seem to be some sort of idiot...
Your stupid statements are getting old and tiring.
Game will not be at the high school this weekend, but will be at Sheehan.

Tony, You were told bad information. The turf would have been played on this Friday, even without the track being surfaced. The rain today and tomorrow is what is holding it up. Nothing else. Straight out of AD Steve Trifone's mouth.

Great scott
Great friday night lights
Great town
Great turf
Why not
Celebrate good times comeon!!

1:58 The rain is what's holding up playing on our new turf field?? We were told the turf wasn't affected by the rain - it drains off and allows games to be played. So what's your story now?

They can't finish the installation completely by Friday because they can't work on it in the rain to finish the process. Today's showers and the Thursday forecast is holding up the completion of the turf. The turf will undoubtedly hold a lot of rain when completed.

Its not the turf being "rained out", its the construction of the turf that is being rained out.

Oh OK...now I understand. The construction workers don't want to get wet.

lol

I was told that the field ISN'T draining properly and that's the reason the game won't be held on the new field on Friday. Anybody know what's up with the drainage poblems with the new field?

The problem with the drainage is that the drainage system (ie: the turf completely laid out, "buttoned down" completely, etc.) is not complete so water gets underneath. Hence, the rain this week slows the process of how they have to properly complete it.

The problem isn't an issue with the drainage. Its an issue with the field not being completed and therefore not operating the way it should.

Its like building a house and not fully completing the roof yet. Thats not a drainage problem. The roof is just not complete and letting rain in. When the roof gets finished, no rain gets in.

Mr Trifone can say whatever he wants and I appreciate his (and many others) enthusiasm on this. But the turf contractor is delayed in completing the various inlaid portions on the field such as yardage markers, soccer lines, logo, etc. The rain does not help either. And no, there are no issues with the drainage of the field.

Mr. Trifone has arranged for the Friday night game against Wilbur Cross to be played at Sheehan. The priority is to get the ENTIRE project (Track/Field) completed this fall. Delaying the track resurfacing (not an option) so that the field can be used sooner than planned is not in the best interests of completing this project in its' entirety.

As of today, the target completion date remains 11/11.

Tony,

Thank you for the update. One other reason for the delay is that even if they had finished the inlays and were able to get the infill lid out, brushed and groomed, the field needs to undergo a "field" test before being played on to ensure that the surface is safe.

The filed would have been played on tonight, Saturday for youth football, and Sunday for Music in Motion until the rain came this week. All the testing would have been complete.

Read the Cheshire Herald article printed today to get the full story....

The article is from the wishful perspective of Trifone and Behrer. Just wishful thinking.

It was theoretically possible but the PBC had no intention of hosting any event until both projects are completed. And Tony is correct, the deadline has and continues to be 11/11 before ANY event is hosted.

Trifone and Behrer do not speak for the officials in charge of this project. Just two puppets flapping in the wind.

Below is the article from today's Cheshire Patch. This game is on for 10/28 at home......

Last Friday in October is First Game on Turf Field

New field at Cheshire High School is expected to be finished within days.

* By Leslie Hutchison

The Cheshire High School football team has had to play all their home games at other fields this season while construction of the new turf field was underway.

By the end of the month though, the first kickoff on the turf field will signal a new era in Rams' footall.

Athletic Director Steve Trifone said he expects the field will basically be finished as early as next week, but rain could delay when teams are allowed on the turf.

Trifone said the field won't be ready in time for the game against Wilbur Cross on Oct. 14. He expects however, that the home game against Foran on Oct. 28 will be the debut of the turf.

NEW YORK, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Thousands of anti-Wall Street protesters rallied in New York's Times Square on Saturday, buoyed by a global day of demonstrations in support of their monthlong campaign against corporate greed.

Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, protests on Saturday started in Asia and rippled through Europe back to the United States and Canada. Protesters fed up with economic inequality took to the streets in cities from Washington, Boston and Chicago to Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto.

Who are those nut jobs who hold signs in front of town hall-tea baggers
This is the real movement

800k and no cheshire money spent....

ya right - the overage on the 10k work is coming out of the BOE maintenance budget, $1 per event ticket, replacement costs....be happy with the field...but dont tell us it wont cost the taxpayor anything...

Any mowing the grass and maintaining the old field and repairing cracks in teh track year after year as they had done, didn't cost the anything? There was a field there before you know? It did need to be maintained you know?

The maintenance budget is the same with or without the repairs. That money was spent and if it went to painting a wall in a school you never saw you would never complain about it.

I think you're wrong. The maintenance budget is NOT spent. In fact with many of the accounts, and Tony can verify or clarify, there is a certain percent on hold until a particular month in 2012 (not sure which but it's near year end.)
Maybe this repair money spent now will mean windows/screens repairs or some cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc won't be able to be purchased.

For the record on this debate, the first home game will indeed be on Nov 11 when the track is completed although the turf is ready to be played on today.

The maintenance staff was trained today on how to maintain it.

The Cheshire Patch gets it wrong again. Good idea for a local site, but not so local anymore, and often inaccurate.

By the way, it looks amazing!

Good town,
great turf,
great going!

The turf field portion is complete and track work is in progress. Last night, Dr. Florio and Vincent Mascianna both stated that no games will be played on the football field before Thanksgiving. The contractual date to have the track completed is 11/11. So long as the weather cooperates over the next week the track should be completed by then.
