Schedule of 2012-2013 BOE Budget Meetings

With the new year brings our BOE budget process that starts Thurs 2/5 with the presentation of the Superintendent's Budget proposal. Based on the events that transpired after the 12/14 TC Budget Pre-Planning workshop I fully expect this budget process to be contentious, even though it does not have to be. More on that later.

Tuned in to the super's presentation of the budget tonight but couldn't hear anything. Apparently Dr. Florio didn't notice that the microphone was too far away to pick up his voice. Go figure.

Tony, You show the next meeting as Tuesday, January 12th. The 12th is Thursday. Can you clarify? Also, today is the 5th not the 6th but the meeting is over so it doesn't matter. :)

Thanks for catching the dates. Yes, the next BOE budget meeting is Thursday 1/12 at Dodd Middle School.

One of the microphones had a dead battery which may explain why nothing could be heard on t.v. I will post up the presentation and a budget breakdown soon.

It can be seen (and heard) in its entirety here. Future meetings will be live on this website as well or posted the next morning if live service unavailable.

How's the possible considering the budget process and the town concil has yet to discuss an actual budget, let alone vote on one?

Interesting comment. How much do YOU think the TC should approve for the BoE budget? Should they give them whatever they ask for, or should they reduce the increase by some amount? I'm sure your opinion on what they should get is a "done deal" even before you thoroughly review the budget.

you already made up your mind Dave so just admit it and be honest with the public

9:41 Not Dave - just someone asking what you think should be the amount given to the boe.

It's easy to say "give them whatever they ask for" (the "yes" people), but it's a lot harder to review, ask the tough questions, and try to decide what total budget works best for the entire community.

I went to budget meetings for several years because I wanted to understand how things worked. You can't just go to a public hearing and speak about the budget without knowing how it is figured out.

It's easy to sit there and criticize board members - heck I could do the same with some of the tc members. People should just stick to the topic Tony puts on his blog.
